Mit «Strum & Thrum» legt die Plattenfirma Captured Tracks eine längst überfällige Songsammlung gegen das Vergessen vor. Und was soll hier nicht vergessen werden? «The American Jangle Underground 1983-1987». Vertreten sind auf diesem Versuch einer historischen Herleitung verschiedener Acts, die sich am gefühligen Sound britischer Vorbilder orientierten. Etwas coolere, düstere Gangarten sind vereinzelt zu erkennen bei Bands, die aus dem Post-Punk oder Garage-Rock kamen und sich klar in einer amerikanischen Tradition verorteten. Doch in jeder Jangle Pop-Spielart auf «Strum & Thrum» ist die Gitarre König, und es wird geschrammelt, was das Zeug hält. Prädikat: historisch wertvoll. Aber auch klanglich top.
Aufgefüllt wird das heutige Programm mit zeitgenössischen jangly tunes aus aller Welt, u.a. von Smokescreens, The Dupont Circles & The Bats.
