Einfach gute Melodien

«Ich mag einfach gute Melodien,» sagte David Bowie 1997 in einem Interview mit Max Dax. Die gute Melodie, sie ist weiterhin zeitlos – egal, ob im Songformat oder im Track: Eine gute Melodie zieht die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. Es geht auch um Balance, um ein Motiv, das eingängig wirkt, ohne stupide oder penetrant zu sein. So gesehen ist die gute Melodie eine komplizierte Sache und wirklich große Kunst.

Inmitten des Melodienreigens der heutigen Sendung hören wir pastoral angehauchten Akustikpop von Photo Ops sowie das britische Kollektiv Monks Road Social mit seinem jüngsten Werk «Rise Up Singing!».

Into Your Ears

Melodien, die sofort ins Ohr gehen und Geschichten, die auf Anhieb Eindruck hinterlassen: Davon gibt es in der heutigen Ausgabe gleich einige gute Beispiele. Aufhänger ist das 1971 veröffentlichte und jüngst auf Vinyl wiederveröffentlichte Meisterwerk «Into Your Ears» von Pete Dello And Friends. Bereits Ende der 60er Jahre sorgte der Mann mit der markanten Hornbrille für salonfähigen Baroque-Pop als Teil der britischen Formation The Honeybus. Trotz – oder vielleicht auch wegen? – des kommerziellen Erfolgs zog Pete Dello es allerdings vor, die Popstarkarriere gegen ein gutbürgerliches Leben als Musiklehrer einzutauschen. Als letzter Gruß aus dem Studio erschien ebenjenes liebenswürdig-romantische, humorvolle Solowerk, welches auch über 50 Jahre später noch zu becircen weiß.

Melody Makers

Schräge oder sperrige Klänge haben für einmal keine Chance auf Airplay, denn heute stehen Melody Makers auf dem Programm. Die Melodie ist also Trumpf, harmonische Bögen werden bis in den Pop-Olymp gesponnen. Hinter der schönen Oberfläche gibt es dennoch Raum für Tiefe, für gelegentliche Ausflüge in die Avantgarde und in die Politik. Wie das zusammen geht, das zeigen uns u.a. Cate Le Bon, Stereolab und Olden Yolk.
