Musik kann ein kultureller Speicher sein, in dem Sounds, Methoden und Betrachtungsweisen abgelegt sind – sei es ein altes Original oder eine neue Aufnahme, die sich historischer Referenzen bedient. Harmonien ergeben sich nicht einfach so, sie wollen organisiert sein. Andererseits ist die Empfindung von Ein- oder Wohlklang kulturell bedingt. In der europäischen Musiklehre meint es, dass Töne zusammen erklingen, die einen gemeinsamen Bezug auf einen Grundton mit seinen Obertönen haben. Aber das muss man nicht wissen, und ob etwa The Lemon Twigs oder Orwell Musiktheorie studiert haben, ist völlig egal – denn zumindest intuitiv haben sie verstanden, wie Harmonie funktioniert.
