„I’m forever on the outside.“ Die Person, die das singt, sieht sich also draußen, jenseits des Geschehens. Darum geht es in der heutigen Sendung – um Künstlerinnen und Künstler, die sich mit dem Outsidertum beschäftigen bzw. selbst im Abseits stehen.
Die Position des Sonderlings kann in der Musik ganz unterschiedliche Dinge bedeuten, vom autodidaktischen Geheimwissen über den visionären Entwurf bis hin zur rein geographischen Abgeschiedenheit. Wir hören uns das näher an, z.B. bei Jad Fair, Jim O’Rourke und Arthur Russell.

Momentaufnahmen

In der heutigen Ausgabe finden sich vermehrt Musikstücke, die man als Momentaufnahmen bezeichnen könnte: Songs, die weniger um Detailreichtum und perfekten Sound bemüht sind, sondern spontan, offen und quasi dokumentarisch entstanden sind. Auch diese Sendung ist letztlich immer eine aktuelle und persönliche Momentaufnahme. Für heute gibt es zum Beispiel das Ableben des amerikanischen Songwriters Michael Brown von The Left Banke zu betrauern, dessen famoser Baroque-Pop nicht nur Golden Glades am Herzen liegt, sondern auch vielen namhaften Bands wie etwa Belle & Sebastian.

Bizarre Pop Triangle

Abseits des Radars: Im Golden Glades-Fokus steht heute der abseitige Pop im Bermuda-Dreieck der Verschollenheit. Die Dreiheit zieht sich weiter in die wichtigsten Komponenten der Musik: Der RHYTHMUS spielt hier eine bedeutende Rolle, sorgt für Dynamik und Form auf allen Ebenen. Der SOUND ist zumeist im lo-fi- sowie im elektronischen Bereich anzusiedeln, denn die Songs wurden selten in einem Musikstudio, häufiger im Schlafzimmer, Keller oder auf dem Klo aufgenommen. Der dritte Eckpfeiler unserer Bizarre Pop Triangle ist – natürlich – die MELODIE.

Stimmen hören

In der Pop- und Rockmusik spielt die Stimme nach wie vor eine übergeordnete Rolle. Ob man einen Song auf Anhieb mag oder nicht, wird oftmals durch den Gesang entschieden, denn der Stimmklang ist so einzigartig wie ein Fingerbadruck. Er trägt eine ganz bestimmte Sensibilität, die sich leicht auf den gesamten Song überträgt. Wir hören heute genau hin, auf ganz unterschiedliche Gesangseinlagen von nüchtern bis euphorisierend.
