Ein guter Anfang

Die dramaturgische Grundregel lautet: Du brauchst einen guten Anfang und ein gutes Ende. In der Mitte darf man sich gewisse Nachlässigkeiten erlauben. Folglich haben wir uns für die erste Sendung des Jahres besonders zusammengerissen, konzentriert und fokussiert – und gelangten zu dem Entschluss, in der heutigen Sendung Musik von Broadcast, The Sonics, und Loving mit auf die Playlist zu nehmen.

Ohrenwärmer

Winterliche Ohrenwärmer sehen ja manchmal aus wie große Kopfhörer. Da sitzen sie und halten warm. Dieser Adventsausgabe von Golden Glades mögen sie als Metapher dienen. Denn allerhand wohliges Klangmaterial für Herz und Ohren haben wir zusammengetragen, darunter den süß-versponnenen Indie-Folkpop der französischen Einmannband Magon. Und der Schotte Daniel McGeever demonstriert uns, dass sein klassisches Songwriting den Vergleich mit großen Namen nicht zu scheuen braucht.

Reiche Ernte

Der Herbst ist da und mit ihm füllen sich die Scheunen und Kontore – warum zu just dieser Jahreszeit auch jeweils die meisten Musikveröffentlichungen anstehen und ob es da einen Zusammenhang mit der Ernte auf den Feldern gibt, entzieht sich meiner Kenntnis. Überhaupt hinkt der Vergleich ein wenig, denn wo wir doch jedes Korn, jeden Kürbis und jede Rebe ehren sollen, wird für die Golden Glades-Playlist GNADENLOS ausgesiebt.

Mit auf die deliziös funkelnde Anrichte der laufenden Woche haben es geschafft: das spanische Damen-Quartett Melenas, die britischen Slacker Wicketkeeper sowie fabelhafte Geschichten aus Berlin von den Newcomern Braake.

Pop Filter

Golden Glades hat nicht nur einen strengen Pop Filter eingebaut, sondern bringt heute sogar eine gleichnamige Band aus Melbourne ins Spiel. Pop Filter spielen lässig-leichte Songs, die sich schwer einordnen lassen, denn an ihrem Debüt «Banksia» waren gleich sechs Songwriter beteiligt. Es handelt sich eigentlich um kein neues Projekt, vielmehr sind Pop Filter die Band Ocean Party, die nach dem plötzlichen Tod ihres Sängers und Schlagzeugers Zac Denton nicht wie gewohnt weitermachen wollte.

Melbourne ist inzwischen so etwas wie das neue Glasgow, jedenfalls in der Art und Weise, wie Musikschaffende hier generationenübergreifend gemeinsame Sache machen. So gibt es eine personelle Überschneidung zwischen Pop Filter und einem weiteren Debüt-Highlight: «Or Not Thibault». Die Musikerin Nicole Thibault sorgte schon in den 90er Jahren als Mitglied der Minimum Chips für verhuschte Casio-Gefühle. Mit ihrem Solowerk geht sie nun einen artverwandten Weg und setzt auf motorischen Pop, in dem alte Moogs und Keyboards die Hauptrolle spielen.

Polymood

Polymood bei Golden Glades bedient heute ganz unterschiedliche Stimmungen. Bisweilen sind sie komplex miteinander kombiniert, etwa traurig-schön oder rauschhaft-vergnügt. Im Fokus steht u.a. das akustische Werk «Richard» von Joe Pernice. Aufgenommen mit einfachsten Mitteln in seinem Werkzeugraum (dort, wo er normalerweise Fahrräder repariert), singt Pernice seine beseelten Songs. Und klingt dabei so nahbar, als würde er mit seiner Akustikgitarre direkt bei uns im Wohnzimmer hocken.

Polymoods kommen mit dem Debüt von Snowy Band derzeit auch aus Melbourne. Liam «Snowy» Halliwell hat bereits in der letzten Dekade bei diversen Bands mitgemischt. Nun hat er mit «Audio Commentary» ein Album über Freundschaften abgeliefert, das zwischen fordernd-euphorisch und zurückhaltend-fragil changiert.

Abgerundet wird die Sendung durch verwegen-überdrehten Discozauber von Hologram Teen und die wundersam-weltabgewandte Songkunst von Dent May.
