Im Beichtstuhl

Golden Glades macht es sich heute im Beichtstuhl gemütlich und lauscht andächtig, wie die Musikschaffenden von heute und gestern im Songformat ihr Herz ausschütten und ihr Gewissen erleichtern. Über die Tücken des Daseins wird gesungen, über Liebe, Leid und andere Laster. Wer konsequent und überzeugend aus dem eigenen Leben berichtet, muss allerdings auch mit Konsequenzen rechnen. Als Tracey Thorn 2010 ihren Song Oh, The Divorces! vorstellte, wurde vorschnell geschlussfolgert, ihre Bilderbuchehe mit Ben Watt sei gescheitert – zu Unrecht. Als Speerspitze der Abteilung confessional singer-/songwriter gilt übrigens Joni Mitchell, obwohl sie selbst den Begriff aufgrund seiner religiösen Konnotation zutiefst verabscheute. Auch ihr hören wir heute zu.

Here I am, doing it all wrong again by releasing my Best of 2017 list way before Xmas. Wundertüte

Wer kann sich noch daran erinnern, an den Glücksmoment der guten alten Wundertüte? Aber nein, die gerollte rauschhafte Mischung ist damit nicht gemeint, sondern die verschlossenen bunten Päckchen für Kinder, in denen sich nebst Süßigkeiten noch einige Überraschungen befinden. In der Ungewissheit steckt das eigentliche Erfolgsgeheimnis, denn zunächst einmal wird mit der Wundertüte die Neugierde geweckt. Auch in der heutigen Ausgabe von Golden Glades wird vorweg nicht verraten was kommt, also: lasst euch überraschen!

Trip Down Memory Lane

Kaum ein vernünftiger Mensch wird bestreiten, dass die Popmusik der 1960er Jahre äußerst offen und experimentierfreudig war – und dass sich diese Haltung in einigen der besten Platten aller Zeiten niedergeschlagen hat, üppig instrumentiert und reich an Melodien. Heute wird sowohl in Sachen Soundästhetik als auch in der Harmonieführung wieder gern auf die Sixties Bezug genommen. Neue Platten u.a. von Brent Cash, The Proper Ornaments und CaStLeS zeigen auf ganz unterschiedliche Weise, wie sich das goldene Zeitalter in der zeitgenössischen Popmusik manifestiert.

Zum neuen Jahr präsentiert Golden Glades wie gewohnt eine musikalische Jahresuhr: ein Lied zu jedem Monat, eine Ode zu jeder Jahreszeit. Wir erleben im Schnelldurchlauf, wie die Erde auf ihrem Weg um die Sonne etwa 940 Millionen Kilometer zurücklegt, und begegnen dabei so unterschiedlichen Zeitgenossen wie Mercury Rev, Trust Fund und Marker Starling.
