Pop Underground

Im Schatten der Akropolis fand vergangene Woche die zweite Ausgabe des Pop Underground Festivals statt. Sagenumwobene Bands wie The Flatmates und Karen (mit Brilliant Corners-Sänger Davey Woodward) waren in Athen im familiären Rahmen zu erleben. Ebenfalls dabei: The Legendary Bang mit yours truly am Schlagzeug. In der heutigen Golden Glades-Ausgabe erfolgt ein kleiner Erlebnisbericht aus teilnehmender Beobachtung.

Vier Räder und die Wahrheit

Natürlich, die Wahrheit kommt oft genug unter die Räder, doch was es genau mit dem Titel „Four Wheels and the Truth“ auf sich hat, das weiß wohl nur der Künstler selbst: Blue Broderick steckt hinter dem Projekt Diners, welches vor zehn Jahren in Arizona seinen Anfang nahm. Brodericks neue LP ist direkt von der Pandemiesituation geprägt: In regelmäßigen Livestreams konnte das Publikum mitverfolgen, wie die Songs ihre Form annahmen. Herausgekommen ist ein fröhliches und zugleich nachdenkliches Werk, das sich als melodienreicher Begleiter für den Sommer erweisen könnte.

Zudem hören wir neue, mitunter überraschende Songs von Eerie Wanda und Francis Lung und Elf Power.

Schlußrunde

Für Kulturschaffende geht ein zweites schwieriges Jahr zu Ende. Hart trifft es auch unabhängige Musiker*innen und kleine Plattenfirmen, denn der aktuelle Schallplatten-Boom hat seine eigene Krise: Die Nachfrage ist groß, doch es fehlen die Rohstoffe. Außerdem haben Majorlabels den Markt für sich wiederentdeckt und blockieren die wenigen Presswerke mit Großaufträgen; alle anderen müssen hintenanstehen und warten. Und das, wo in Zeiten der Pandemie das Vinyl für kleine Unternehmen die wichtigste Einnahmequelle ist.

Auch der Schotte Andrew Taylor musste länger als gewohnt auf seine neue Ware warten. Taylors lupenreines Pop-Material geht zurück auf diverse Lockdownsessions des vergangenen Jahres. An die 40 Tracks wurden damals häppchenweise digital veröffentlicht. Taylor suchte die besten Momente heraus und lies sie von seiner Begleitband überarbeiten. Das handfeste Ergebnis trägt den Projekttitel «Andrew Taylor and The Harmonizers» und soll in der Golden Glades Schlußrunde hinreichend gewürdigt werden.

Schlußrunde war zu hören am Mittwoch, den 15.12.21 – 19:00-21:00 Uhr.
Wdh.: Samstag, 18.12. von 15:00-17:00 Uhr und Montag, 20.12. 08:00-10:00 Uhr
