Kleine Lieder, große Gefühle

Warum wird in der Oper gesungen? Gängige Erklärung: Weil das Gefühl so groß ist, dass es einfach raus muss. „Someone bursts into a song“ – dieses Phänomen gibt es auch in Musikgenres, die mit weniger Aufwand auskommen. Mitte Februar hat das chinesische Jahr des Pferdes begonnen. Es lässt – so hört man – radikale Wendungen und großen Fortschritt erwarten. Klingt eigentlich nicht nach Tierwelt, sondern eher nach menschlicher Kopfgeburt.

Doch was ist der Mensch? Eigentlich ein Tier, getrieben von Instinkten. Dies zumindest behauptet der US-Songwriter Luke Temple auf seinem neuen Album „Hungry Animal“ – nur klingt seine Musik dermaßen ausgeklügelt, dass sie die These sogleich widerlegt.

Neulich titelte eine hiesige Tageszeitung: „Heute arbeiten wir gegen den Trend“. Da kann unsereiner nur sagen: Das machen wir jeden Tag! Unser Kerngeschäft ist es, Künstler*innen vorzustellen, die auf abweichenden Wegen gehen. Das ist kein Selbstzweck, sondern beruht auf der schlichten Annahme, dass sich abseits von Charts und Algorithmen das bessere Zeug findet. Heute mit dabei: Railcard, Greg Weeks und Die Regierung.
