Hier und Jetzt

Im Zen-Buddhismus geht es, so sagt man, um das Erleben des gegenwärtigen Augenblicks. Nun ist die Musik des Hamburger Quartetts House of Zen sicher kein religiöser Begleitsoundtrack, aber eine meditative, oder zumindest beruhigende Wirkung hat sie durchaus. Folk und der Westcoast-Sound der 1960er stehen Pate – doch die ehemals unter dem Namen Mountaineer firmierende Band um den Songwriter Henning Wandhoff gewinnt daraus einen ganz und gar zeitgenössischen Entwurf: elegant, charmant und reich an Texturen.

Switched On Pop

Keine Frage, diese Sendung ist auf Pop eingestellt. Damit ist aber nicht ökonomische Rentabilität, sondern die Freude an der Melodie gemeint. In solchem Sinne stehen heute zwei Popspezialisten aus Kalifornien im Fokus.

Auf seinem achten Solowerk „Episodes“ präsentiert sich Bart Davenport als guter Beobachter, wobei es nicht unbedingt alltägliche Figuren sind, die ihn interessieren, stattdessen besingt er einen Freund der Freikörperkultur sowie die Milliardäre unserer Zeit. Davenports Geschichten sind poetisch, manchmal tragisch – und stets eingebunden in einen so geschmackvollen wie abwechslungsreichen Westküstensound.

Ein ebenfalls wunderbares achtes Album gibt es von Jason Quever und seinem Projekt Papercuts. «Past Life Regression» klingt organisch analog; es lässt sich erahnen, dass Quever auch als Produzent begehrt ist. Als Papercuts widmet er sich Songs mit melancholischem Unterton und einer vintagelastigen Klangpalette – kalifornische Popmusik kurz vor der Vollendung.

Golden Glades

Golden Glades is a region in Florida, a mountain in India, a Teenage Fanclub B-side – and also the name of a radio show on ByteFM. After 12 years of fronting Sunday Service, the award-winning radio show from Hamburg, Sandra Zettpunkt set out to explore new horizons. From the perspective of her cosy Swiss attic she scours the globe for timeless treasures – those lost rays of light in the Golden Glades of music history. Expect a hand-picked string of glittering gems, presented in a daring range of themed programmes.
