Die These ist ja bekannt: Alles entscheidet sich in den ersten Sekunden. Ob man das Jobinterview erfolgreich übersteht, mit wem wir unser Leben verbringen – aber natürlich auch, ob ein Song es vermag, uns direkt anzusprechen.

«First Second» haben Pulse Park ihr zweites Album benannt, was die Eingangsthese zugleich bestätigt und widerlegt, weil man eine Sekunde braucht, um den doppelten Sinn zu begreifen. Was unmittelbar erfreut und was sich erst mit der Zeit entfaltet: Beiderlei findet sich in der heutigen (wie überhaupt in jeder) Golden Glades-Ausgabe.

Ob das Glück in der Zukunft liegt oder in der Vergangenheit, daran scheiden sich die Geister. In heller Vorfreude

Es herrscht Vorfreude bei Golden Glades. Weihnachten steht vor der Tür, und einen passenden Soundtrack für die Festtage bietet die Charity Compilation „Have Yourself A Merry Indie Christmas“. Über 100 Songs hat der walisische Musikjournalist Kevin McGrath für dieses Mammutprojekt zusammengestellt. Alle Einnahmen gehen an die Obdachlosenhilfe Crisis UK.
Vorfreude herrscht auch in Bezug auf das neue Jahr, denn verschiedene Vorabsingles stellen bereits vielversprechende Alben in Aussicht. Mit im Preview-Paket 2023: Abracadabra, The Go! Team und Marlody.

Heiter bis wolkig

Die Aussichten für Golden Glades sind heiter bis wolkig. Über Westschottland liegt ein stabiles Hochdruckdruckgebiet, das nur durch melancholische Regenintermezzi unterbrochen wird: Der klassisch geschulte C Duncan präsentiert mit «Alluvium» erneut seine schwelgerischen und texturreichen Klänge. Dem perfekten Pop dicht auf der Spur bleiben David Scott und seine Band The Pearlfishers, von denen einige Alben neu als Doppel-Vinyl erhältlich sind. Und die Glasgower Indie-Darlings Belle and Sebastian legen nach sieben Jahren ein neues Studioalbum vor, das selbst an grauen Tagen eine Portion Trost zu spenden vermag.

Musikalische Jahresuhr

Ein mehr als schwieriges Jahr geht zu Ende, in dem die Live-Bühnen dieser Welt weitgehend verstummt sind – und niemand vermag mit Sicherheit zu sagen, inwieweit sich die Lage 2021 erholen wird. Doch die Erde dreht sich weiter, das Kalenderjahr schreitet wie gewohnt voran und Golden Glades nimmt den Jahreswechsel einmal mehr zum Anlass, Musik rund ums Jahr zu präsentieren. Wir hören ein Lied zu jedem Monat, eine Ode zu jeder Saison. Wir erleben im Schnelldurchlauf, wie die Erde auf ihrem Weg um die Sonne etwa 940 Millionen Kilometer zurücklegt und begegnen dabei so freundlichen Zeitgenossen wie Joe Pernice, Ron Sexsmith und James Elkington.

Love & Other Hopeless Things

Love & Other Hopeless Things, so heißt das neue Langspielwerk von David Scott und seinen The Pearlfishers. Immer dem meisterhaften Popsong auf der Spur, vermittelt der Schotte (übrigens auch als Uni-Dozent), wie raumgreifende Arrangements ihre beste Wirkung entfalten. Samt herzerweichender Melodien entsteht klassischer Schönklang für die Ewigkeit.
